Geometry and tool motion planning for curvature adapted CNC machining

چکیده

CNC machining is the leading subtractive manufacturing technology. Although it in use since decades, far from fully solved and still a rich source for challenging problems geometric computing. We demonstrate this at hand of 5-axis freeform surfaces, where degrees freedom selecting moving cutting tool allow one to adapt motion optimally surface be produced. aim high-quality finish, thereby reducing need hard-to-control post-machining processes such as grinding polishing. Our work based on careful analysis curvature-adapted via so-called second order line contact between target surface. On side, leads new continuous transition "dual" classical results theory concerning osculating circles curves cones tangentially circumscribed developable surfaces. Practically, serves an effective basis planning. Unlike previous approaches machining, we solve locally optimal positioning planning within single optimization framework achieve curvature adaptation even convex This possible with toroidal cutter that contains negatively curved area. The effectiveness our approach verified digital models, simulations machined parts, including comparison generated commercial software.

Automated Process Planning for CNC Machining

A large portion of today’s industrial manufacturing relies on subtractive machining, a process in which a fast-spinning tool successively removes material from raw stock, for example, a block of aluminum, in order to arrive at a part geometry as specified by a design engineer in a computer-aided design (CAD) file. Planning for this process typically involves identifying the sequence of orientat...

Tool allocation and machining conditions optimization for CNC machines

In the literature, there exist many variations of machining economics problem in terms of modelling approaches and solution methodologies. However most of the existing studies focus on the single machining operation which is seldom in practice. On the other hand, tool management approaches at the system level fail to relate the tooling issues to the machining conditions, and ignore the tool ava...

Tool orientation planning for five-axis CNC machining of open free-form surfaces

For the geometry characteristics of open free-form surfaces, it is hard to consider global interference during the planning of feasible domains. Therefore, the optimal kinematic orientation of tool axis will no longer be confined to the boundary of feasible domains. In this paper, according to the principle demanding that the tool should be fitted to a surface as close as possible and relevant ...

Tractrix-based tool orientation control for 5-axis CNC machining

We consider a 5-axis CNC machine whose tool axis maintains a fixed angle with respect to the surface normal as the machine tool cuts a given path on a smooth surface. The tool axis a(ξ) lies on a cone of constant angle ψ about the surface normal n(ξ) at each point of the path, but its azimuthal position on this cone remains indeterminate. Geometrically speaking, given a curve n(ξ) on the unit s...

Designing Tolerance Chart and Process for CNC Machining Parts

The map and the model designed by a designer and presented to a manufacturer in the form of a map is the result of his knowledge and innovation. The manufacturer, in turn, uses his best effort to produce a part accordingly. However, because of production problems and raw material, producing a precise part is very difficult and costly. One of the most important problems in this regard is designi...
